Mobilization and registration of persons with cerebral palsy, autism and learning disabilities.
These were the initial activities that were conducted within areas of Wakiso, Kampala and Mukono districts to form the Organization. Through the mobilization exercise, people with cerebral palsy, autism and learning disabilities were registered. The Organization intends to continue with the mobilization to cover other areas in the country.
This activity is conducted throughout the year to enable KDA to reach more families and community members with information about disabilities.
Public awareness on issues affecting people with cerebral palsy, autism and learning disabilities.
To create public awareness about the rights of people with cerebral palsy,autism and learning disabilities, KDA has conducted public awareness through radio talk shows, newspapers and community meetings targeting parents and community leaders. This is a continuous process and has been done before and after the KDA formation. The sensitization workshops for youth with disabilities where parents, caretakers, local leaders and Village Health Teams (VHTs) have contributed to the increased knowledge and understanding of marginalized disabilities in the covered areas.
Advocacy for the inclusion of specific concerns of Persons with cerebral palsy, autism and learning disabilities in the government and NGOs programs and budgets.
Advocacy has been done in a village-to-village formation, radio talks, TV talk shows and newspaper supplements and meetings or rallies.
Training committee members in leadership positions on how to manage the Organization.
The Organization has conducted training of the KDA committee and other members of staff on leadership, mobilization of members and organizational management.
